Making Time for the Gospel
If you look around the world, food and fellowship seem to be part of every culture.
There are plenty of ways both are done, but it usually boils down to a shared meal and good conversation.
That’s what an OFW couple in the Middle East are banking on as they go beyond their culture and build relationships with their neighbors.
Despite Marvin and Erika’s busy schedule, they have taken the challenge of making disciples of ALL NATIONS.
Prompted by a CCF Beyond training on reaching other cultures, they began a weekly neighborhood event to connect with stay-at-home wives in their community. At least 3 other countries are represented in their gatherings, which usually start off with Zumba and then a shared meal with purposeful conversation.
Given their host country’s restrictions on sharing the gospel with those of the dominant religion, they have adopted a slower but surer approach when it comes to introducing Jesus.
They simply get to know each other over dinner, then read “ stories” from the book of Psalms and Proverbs with a few simple but insightful questions:
“What are you thankful to God for?”
“What can you learn about God?”
“From the stories we’ve looked at, what will you do differently this week?”
This has led to deeper conversations about life and has given Marvin and Erika's opportunities to pray and care for their neighbors.
It may take a while, but rest assured they are building a firm foundation for the gospel.
As the Apostle Peter says, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count as slowness, but is patient towards you, not wishing any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Please pray that all of their neighbors would reach the point where they will put their trust in Jesus and be saved!
